Bug Fixes & Tweaks - Fixed 9 bugs related to corrupted data. - Fixed sun effects. (Bugs 548 & 567) - Fixed HQ problem of StarSign Shipyard. (Bug 571) - Deleted city on HY-890 sun. (Bug 580) - Fixed a bug causing the privilege check on the city stats page to not work. (BugID 435) - Fixed a bug in the auto-assign power script that was causing it not to check the remaining power properly. It resulted in events saying the buildings were powered when they actually weren't. Also clarified the Power & Cities rules so they no longer claim that generators by the same builder would be powered (it's only owners). (BugID 403) - Fixed bug 0000062: Event Consolidation The events for assigning and unassigning NPCs to work in mines has now been consolidated to one line in the personal events. - Updated the capital required to create a transport faction to 30 million compared to 60 million prior. - Updated the registration fee for transport factions from 25 million to 15 million. - Added a Digg It featurette for posts made my info factions. - If a user tries to access a members only page and gets passed back to the login page, they now redirect to the first page they tried to access on logging in.
Maintenance & QA - Fixed caused generating daily GNS Tutorial NPCs (type=14) because someone deleted them without warning. What to do with the 687 existing ones ? - Fixed error due to recycling reports sent by ships considered as coming from factions.

Seroiusly though, my character is a crispy critter. She fought hard to take out this blue star and after a few days lost the good fight. Eventhough I am still the art director I cannot respond to any DMs so if you need things fixed...make sure you send all info needed to resolve the situation but don't expect a response. If it is possibly a bug...use the bug base.

In line with one of the suggestions located here.
The Privilige Levels for purchasing NPCs have been changed to level 3. This means that with the next Sync, people who could previously edit NPCs can now also purchase them, while people who could purchase them before now lose the ability to make them over without higher access.

Transport Faction creation costs have now been reducded:
It will now cost 30 million in capital to start the faction with a 15 million registration fee. This is from the 60 million in capital it used to require and the 25 million registration fee. Hopefully this will encourage more people to create Transportation factions. Also as a note due to this I have reset all current Transportation factions so thier initial capital is now set to 30 million, as well. Thanks for the good suggestions folks and keep providing them.

I would like to thank all of you who participated in this week-long invitation to send me an e-mail with your likes and dislikes related to Star Wars Combine. I received surprisingly large amount of e-mails with very interesting content - enough to convince me that this should be a more frequent event in a given year. I like the fact that a good distribution of players responded that fit in both beginner and experienced group. You were all very respectful and all criticism was backed up with explanation without random complaining and I thank you for that. I wanted to reply to a lot of your e-mails, but if I would reply to one, it wouldn't be fair not to reply to the rest. So let me thank you all here in public for your time.
Once I finish going through all of them in detail I will present the key elements that were common to most of your e-mails and present the findings to administration for discussion.

As posted here some time ago, the NPC transports are still experiencing problems, so players should avoid using this service until the problems are resolved. If you are currently stuck on a transport or have some enlightening information to share about this issue, the bug report is still open and available for note-appending.

The SW Combine Administration is looking for an additional Assistant with specific focus on managing multi-accounts. This is a permanent position requiring you to drop your character (ie stop playing and having any IC interactions) and also demanding quite some free time. The job of assistant encompasses activities such as:
- Answering day-to-day mails sent to the assistants mailing list as well as answering questions through irc.
- Fixing corrupted accounts through the use of admin tools; (including the bug base)
- Managing multi-acounts & tracking illegal multi
- Various other tasks asked by the SWC Administration.

| Following the recent server problems, we have received a number of reports regarding entities that have gone missing. Tidus is in the process of going through the existing reports in an attempt to restore those entities that have changed ownership. To ensure that nothing is overlooked and to centralize these reports, if you or your faction lost an entity and has not yet had it returned, please post in the thread located here, even if you have already made a report elsewhere. Include as much information as you can, especially the entity ID if possible. Obviously, attempts to lie about this will be punished.
Please continue to be patient, as confirming reports and restoring the entities can be a time consuming process, and will be dealt with over the next week or two. |

I was working on conducting a very specific research in the past which is now long overdue and on top of that the purpose changed as well. Essentially you will have an option to participate in satisfaction survey which will provide a lot of useful information to Public Relations department. As I would not like the content of this survey to be a product of elite group of players or small group of friends, I would appreciate the input from as many of you as possible.
Procedure is simple. Send me an e-mail where you briefly outline what you like and dislike about Star Wars Combine, what makes you keep playing it, what frustrates you, etc. Not just game mechanics, but also player interaction you are experiencing and how it is affecting you in either positive or negative way, faction integration and problems (especially if you are new players), etc. Ensure you do not include any specific IC details as I'm interested in the type of problem you have, not the specific problem itself. If you provide example, make sure you strip IC details from that example. Please do not include suggestions on how to change/add/redo something in the game as that type of feedback I can get on the forums. I created a separate e-mail where you can send this - sorel_kaar@hotmail.com. Also please include "For Survey" in the topic so I can separate it from spam.
Your input will provide valuable information in order to form the upcoming survey properly. That being said I would especially like to get feedback from new players, so don't be shy. I don't even care if your english is terrible, just type and send.
You have 1 week, so end day is July 22nd. I will read each and every e-mail sent to me in this time frame as long as it stays on topic. Further Sim News will follow on the progress of this.

All blocked actions, such as paused or halted construction, mining, prospecting, and so on should now have resumed and completed successfully where applicable, so further actions should not encounter any more trouble. |

We are aware that there are currently bugs galore across the Combine site, including but not limited to various error messages, inability to create character or choose starting location, missing/nonfunctional facilities and other entities, people stranded, visible yet nonfunctional links to make Sim News posts, and more!
At the moment the best we can do is ask everyone to be patient until the hardware difficulties are resolved; hopefully everything else will be taken care of as a result of this. Watch the Sim News for updates on this, as well as updates in terms of any specific bugs that may be dealt with manually in the meantime, but otherwise please avoid filling the Problem Centre, Bug Base, or IRC channel with bug reports. The bugs can't be helped at the moment and are already known. |

All,
A quick status update. Our database is currently on our development server due to the issues we have occurred on our main server. As a result expect things to run slower than usual until we can check out the issue and get our database back onto the main server. Now due to this to save resources we have turned off apache on dev, this means that Bug Base, Dev Wiki, most of the developement testing as well will all be unavailable for awhile.
Also if resources become an issue while on the dev box which is far less powerful than the main box, we will have to turn off a few features. So expect a few things to be turned off in the next day or so temporarily until our hardware issues get resolved. The things that are likely to be turned off will be actions and travel mainly. If we have to turn on more we will turn off everything except forums, darkness messages and news.

The server had a hard drive crash on the drive that holds the database. It appears everything is working fine for now, but if it acts up again, we'll switch over to our backup database server until our host can investigate.

For those of you who wonder why I made this decision, here comes my reasoning. The Multi Accounts Rules purpose exists to prevent any undetected multi account to abuse of his position. The rules have been created to prevent damages such as illegal spying, large-scale cheats, IC experience ruining and other abuses linked to having two or more accounts. As such, it is only normal to have the rules we have and to enforce them strictly like Syn and Tidus have brilliantly done during the past years.
However, in a case like Seele and Banquo Knox - two veterans players known for their integrity - who then happen to live together after having played for years, enforcing the rules would only force them to scrap past of their IC history and efforts (years of honest playing) because of an OOC event (they now live in the same flat). This is not the purpose of the Multi Accounts Rules and it is why I unilaterally decided to unban them. Note however that my decision remains an exception (once or twice every 10 years) and cannot be used as precedent for future cases. Multi Accounts Directors will keep on strictly enforcing the rules with my benediction.

Those who play here in the Combine seriously disappoint me. Numerous times I've received praise, and many thanks for being strict about the multi rules. I don't make exceptions because once you make an exception for someone, another person will require one... and another, and another. It gets so bad, that you question why you even have those rules. Yet, those same people who give me praise will grind their teeth and curse me for banning them for the same violations. Hypocrisy runs rampant through the player base. Of course with current leadership, I’m not surprised. I've made it blatantly clear in my dealing with multis that I do not back down to anyone. If I have ample proof that you are breaking the rules, I will ban you. If I am proven wrong, I have no problem apologizing and immediately reversing my actions. Because of my integrity, I have a serious problem with being over ruled because Veynom tells me 'I like them'. I do not care about your opinions towards me. I know I'm hated by a majority of you, doesn't faze me one bit. What I care about are the rules. Right now, Veynom's actions towards a recent decision has made a joke of the multi-account rules. Currently, if you are a veteran or Veynom likes you, you are immune to the multi account rules. I was brought on as a Multi Account Admin because I hold everyone accountable to the rules. Well, until today.
Last night, I had the unfortunate displeasure of banning someone I considered a friend. Now, unlike some of the Combine administration, I don't let personal feelings or opinions get in the way of doing my job. The rules are very clear, if you share a connection and do not register, you are to be banned. Now, Banquo asked me the night before if I would be willing to allow them to remain unregistered and in two separate factions. I specifically told him, he would be banned. I gave him a warning. That was the extent of leniency I was going to give him. I usually don’t warn anyone they are to be banned. Why warn someone that they are about to be banned for breaking the rules? I do not believe in allowing those who break the rules so blatantly more time to transfer assets, make arrangements, or what have you. Instead of complying however, they sent an email to Veynom. Earlier today, Veynom then ordered me to unban them in a private PM on IRC. (If you would like logs of this conversation, feel free to send me an email at kimseyt@pop.belmont.edu, trying to hold him accountable for his actions.) I then told him that if he over rules this decision, he would have to find a new Multi Account Admin. His response was to complement my work on multi accounts and then tell me I wouldn’t have to worry. He only interferes once or twice a year. The kicker? Both Banquo and Seele acknowledged breaking the rules and were fine with sitting out 30 days like the multi rules say and after they were both allowed to come back, complying with them. But, Veynom has declared them both immune to the rules, so they have been unbanned.
To those that follow the rules, I thank you. I know that following them at times could be a serious strain and a burden to real life relationships with those you work and live with. I was never trying to hurt you nor be malicious and tried to work with you when the need arose. But I don’t believe it’s fair that someone who has a lower join date than you should be allowed to violate the rules I hold you accountable for. I’m sorry.
I will continue my work as an ASim and continue to maintain the Dev Wiki. But I refuse to handle multis again. Those with multi questions issues, please send all questions and registrations to veynom@swcombine.com. He will be handling them until he can find someone else. |
