During the millennia of the Old Republic, the Jedi were the guardians of the Light and the Sith the warriors of Darkness. Almost every sentient knows those names but these were not the only ones who knew the deep intricacies of the Force. In that golden age of peace and prosperity another order flourished and produced some of the most deadly combatants the galaxy has ever seen.
These are the Matukai.
A nomadic and decentralized order, the Matukai never possessed a formal organizational structure or central location. Instead, their study of the Force was in the purest form. Wandering the galaxy in small groups, they cared nothing for politics, power or influence. Instead, they sought to deepen their connection to the Force and manifest its power while assisting and instructing others.
The philosophy of the Matukai is that the physical body is the focal point and channel of a sentient's connection to the Force. Thus, they seek to purify and strengthen the body to allow the unhindered flow of this mystical energy. To assist in the process, the Matukai practice meditative martial arts and combative training which hones their bodies into lethal weapons.
The final result is an individual who, despite maybe the most insignificant initial connection to the Force, is capable of incredible Force feats of speed, agility, strength, endurance and coordination. When coupled with other Force techniques, the master of the Matukai way is an almost unstoppably powerful opponent.
With the end of the Old Republic and rise in persecution for all practitioners of the Force, the Matukai of old narrowly avoided suffering the same fate as the Jedi. Resilient to the core however, they were not destroyed but managed to escape into exile or hiding, using their unparalleled skills to endure the harshest environments and most difficult circumstances. Their natural prowess in combat made them not only impossible to eradicate but also gave them the tools to become some of the most respected practitioners of the mercenary trade.
In time, a new generation of Matukai were trained in scattered locations of the galaxy. Gaining their experience in the tough life of soldiers for hire, this breed of the Order came to realize the importance of embracing all aspects of the Force and combat, not just that of the Light or the traditional wan-shen of old. Blaster, starfighter and even lightsaber have been wielded with ruthless efficiency by this battle-hardened corp of war dogs.
Eventually, this rugged band of mercs broke away from their respective roots and came together to found an idependent company: Matukai Dragons. Dedicated to promoting and teaching the Matukai way as a means of combat, this company has since then held itself to one single goal.
